Inspirational Women of the Quran: Learning from Female Figures

Holy Quran in English

The Quran is the book of guidance and a source of inspiration for Muslims and mankind. Refuting the common claims of male supremacy in Islam, the Quran upholds the rights, achievements, status, and importance of female figures. From the wives of the prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to Mother Mary, there are a gazillion women to take inspiration from.

We have listed some of these women and the reason for their supremacy as mentioned in the Holy Quran in English

Maryam

Maryam, also called Mother Mary by Christians, was a solid figure in Islam. She was the daughter of Imran and the greatest of all time. She gave birth to the prophet Isa (Jesus) whilst staying a virgin. This was indeed a miracle and a blessing that was bestowed upon her by Allah. Maryam (A.S.) is revered as a lady who attained spiritual perfection since Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h.) included her in that category. She is a woman who shows us all how to have Tawakkul (trust) in Allah and to rely on Him in the most trying circumstances. She serves as an example for men and women alike through her dedication, worship, and modesty.

 Khadijah

Khadijah was the first and the most beloved wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him). She was the first to believe in his message and mission to spread Islam. She is praised for her wisdom, commitment, and steadfast faith in his cause. She is a role model for strength and empowerment as a loyal partner and successful entrepreneur. When you read the English translated Quran with meaning, you will encounter her unflinching belief.

Aasiyah

Aasiyah was the wife of a tyrant who ruled to claim his divinity and tortured people to succumb to it. Aasiyah, a person of piety and faith, fought Pharaoh's tyrannical authority and maintained her trust in the One God (Allah). Her courage in the face of oppression serves as a lesson in the value of upholding one's morals and battling injustice.

Aisha

Aisha was the second wife of the Prophet Muhammad and was considered the ‘scholar of scholars. She carried on the message of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) 44 years after his passing on subjects like inheritance, pilgrimage, and eschatology. Her knowledge was widespread and can be considered an inspiration for women today!

These are only a few of the many brave, courageous, and indomitable women of Islam. They are remembered today for their faith, characteristics, and contributions.
